Firing up the Distillation Still at Wolds Way Lavender

The calyx of the lavender flower (collective term for all of the sepals, structural components of a flower) is a series of minute ridges and grooves which shelter the secretor glands which produce the essence. The essential oil apparently is a form of chemical defence, protecting the plant from micro-organisms, and attracting pollinating insects !
